Painter Angelo Savelli has died aged 83 at the Castello of Boldeniga in Dello (Brescia). Born in Pizzo Calabro (Catanzaro) in 1911, he entered the world of art through the circle ofthe Futurists in Rome.
After living in Paris he moved to New York, where he founded the Art Club on Tenth Street, along with other painters. In 1959 he became known to the American critics through a personal exhibition at Leo Castelli's famous modern art gallery. In Italy his work has gone neglected for decades; only this year one of the rooms in the Italian Pavillion at the Biennale di Venezia has been dedicated to him. Moreover, the PecciMuseum in Prato has organized an anthological exhibition that should have been opened by the painter himself on June 17.
