Savelli was a complex character, not exactly ali pure and white, the "well rounded" personality that everyone wanted to see; you had to know him in depth because his art, his vision of life, were born of an internal conflict with the world which at times were set off and were expressed in actions and behaviour which he directed even against himself provided he maintained his extraordinary sense of dignity, grace and elegance.
Savelli was a champion of absolute purity, I always compare him to the platinum ruler which is kept in London; he is a measure for a mode of behaviour and way ofbeing of every artist. Rowever he wasn't a rebel against society as romantic tradition would have it, to the contrary, even though he would not compromise his standards to society, he was someone who wished to live in it in his own way, with unparalleled grace and gentility.
He was not a romantic, rather he had the spirit of a classical poet.
