“Someone once said that I discovered the color white.
This is not true, for it was white that came to me.”
Angelo Savelli
“This white… it refers to a light coming out of darkness,
derived from the association of the shades of one’s own self
and giving life to another type of light,
a little like in the word illumination.”
Angelo Savelli
“Everywhere I saw burning fire. And I realized was there that I had to stay.”
Angelo Savelli
“We must dispel the fear of losing what we know and love,
and convince ourselves that we need to abandon
it all for reasons which are essentialto our life journey –
Why be scared of what is unknown and always ponder upon
where we are going to end up?”
Angelo Savelli
“I love colors bright, resonant, full, gloomy and dark
like the sea of the Gulf of Saint Eufemia during a storm.
Looking out onto the sea was when I first experienced the joy of colour;
I remember it as if it were yesterday. At the time, I wasn’t even tall
enough to peer above the iron railing of my terrace; I would place my
head between the bars and stare, never tiring of the view. I like scary,
mysterious hues, like those carried by the wind from the Stromboli volcano,
or the tender, idyllic colors of the four walls of the room in which I was born.”
Angelo Savelli
“White was inside of me. I didn’t look for it. It came to find me.”
Angelo Savelli
“I was born physically in Pizzo di Calabria.
In Rome above all spiritually.
Rome has formed me and keeps forming me
as a painter and a man – a man and a painter.
For me there are no boundaries when sincerity
is the foundation. I consider right and necessary
the experience in its cosmic meaning and not as more experience.
I can say that with strength and love I devote myself almost
entirely to painting, and I work as though in a previous life
I had already been a painter and I had now to improve
what I have already done. Certainly, with innate confidence,
in my next life I will continue to love with the same strength.”
Angelo Savelli
“I have the courage and the energy to ask
my inner God to change the course of my life (wrongly)
directed by my own thoughts. I now want all I deserve
to reach the peak.”
Angelo Savelli
“Equanimity means to welcome the time that brings positive novelties,
even if it brings unexpected news, destructive of vital energies,
with equal mood and distance to reach the equilibrium and
the serenity desired by every human being.”
Angelo Savelli
“As for me I think white isn’t colour
it becomes a colour if it is put together with the other
colour the rainbow; so I will call it “endlessness”,
the wandering in the space which borders on immensity,
fleeing beyond bounds and for the spectator it becomes
a way of finding himself free to communicate to observe,
to think and be stimulated to meditate which leads to peace of mind.”
Angelo Savelli
“A new project, a new plan, or a new idea give hope and strength.
Men who gravitate towards what is constantly new and walk towards
the future live in great harmony with nature and, little by little,
discover an inner state of happiness. Young people who follow their
personal ambition and give their all are to be commended and encouraged.”
Angelo Savelli
“The spirit of the devil after an eternity of injustices
declares its absolute innocence.”
Angelo Savelli
“I’d like people to remember that I am from Pizzo.
Although I lived in New York, I’d like people to remember that I am from Pizzo.
New York, of course, gave me the spirit and the strength to express the impossible.
The ‘impossible’ for me was receiving the color white.
I did not find white; it came to me.
It manifested itself and I did not recognize it, but I welcomed it
without knowing it would have given me so much.”
Angelo Savelli
“It’s as if my eyes had a very fine point,
and they want to penetrate, penetrate inside.
To see, to hear, to love.”
Angelo Savelli
“The mind knows well it must stay out
of the creative action induced from inside
that knows everything without knowing anything.”
Angelo Savelli
“Even if I don’t use the colours anymore…
I always love to look at them.
And of course I also like to look at the painters who use them.”
Angelo Savelli
